Link to my video and images of this Regulus occultation
On Wednesday, May 23, 2007 the Earthmoon (48% lit) occults star Regulus on the bright daylight sky. In Woodquarter the occultation happens on southeast sky in an elevation of 48 degrees. In Woodquarter this occultation is a total one. The star will disappeare behind the dark side of the moon disk at 15h23 UTC and will reappear about 26 minutes later at 15h49 UTC on the bright moon limb. The sun will be than in an elevation of 30 degrees on western sky and in a distance of 87 degrees to the moon.
In a small zone across europe of few kilometers width this star occultation can be observed as a grazing one. There the star can disappear behind moon mountains and reappear through moon valleys several times.
About this grazing occultation an extra page exist with Data and interactive map about the path across Europe.
For a sucessfull observation of this occultation a telescope with at least 4 Inches (10cm) should be used. Never look in the sun with the telescope. Your eye would be damaged immediately and for ever.
