On January 10, 2009 a new sunspot arised on the sun disk. The magnetic polarity showed that he already is a sunspot of the new Solar Cycle 24. The sunspot with number 1010 was visible on the the sun disk until January 13, 2009. After that date the disk was blank again.
The image in light of h-alpha (656,28 Nanometer) below was exposured on January 10, 2009 at 12:49 UTC. The sun was in an altitude of 16 degrees above the southwest horizon. Used optic was the Coronado PST Solar Teleskop 40/400mm mounted on a Manfrotto tripod.
Because the weather situation was not constant the images were made from a heated room inside the house through the opened window. The camera used was my original DSLR Canon EOS 20D. The lense element of a 2X Barlow lense was screwed in front of the camera adapter. Only in this way the focus can be reached with the DSLR on the PST. The effective focal length was rised from 400mm to 600mm.
